Problem indoor environments can be traced to a variety of causes, and TPG is qualified to evaluate cause of substandard indoor air quality.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has determined that there are generally five major causes of indoor air quality problems. These include:

- Inadequate ventilation
- Pollutants created by activities inside the building
- Pollutants drawn in from outside air
- Biological contamination
- Pollutants from the building materials and furnishings
